It’s almost ‘jigging’ time again and I’m not referring to ice fishing! St. Paddy’s Day is just around the corner and The DACA Center is pulling out all the stops this year for their annual St. Paddy’s Day party which will be held on March 8, 2025. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year!!
GROUP 1 - Back by popular demand the house band will be The Ryan’s who are well known locally for their fantastic entertainment at numerous Irish Celebrations around the
Valley. Although they play all types of music they love to engage their audiences by having them sing-along, dance and get toes tapping with wonderful Irish songs and melodies. Joining The Ryan’s is multi-award winning Canadian fiddle champion, Louis Schryer is one of Canada’s most respected and sought out fiddle players. He is the only 8 time Canadian Fiddle Champion and the only one to hold the title of 4 time Grand Masters Fiddle Champion. His foundation of Canadian, Québecois, Cape Breton, Irish, swing and classical music has shaped his musical ability into a unique style. To double your pleasure we also have our very own, extremely talented, Terri-Lynn Mahusky joining The Ryan’s and Louis on stage. Terri-Lynn is well known throughout the Ottawa Valley and has won the Open Championship for both the Fiddle and Dance. A highlight of her career has been entertaining people for a number of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators St. Patrick Day games. And that is just our houseband!!!!
Now if that wasn’t enough, The Ryan’s, Louis & Terri-Lynn will be joined by three (3) step dancers from Ottawa. They are sisters Gaïa & Nairi Adjemian (who danced for us last year) and Owen Lavender. They are grateful to Pauline Brown and Jacqueline Enright. who the kids say are awesome and inspirational teachers. “Nairi has been dancing and performing since she was nine years old, and loves every minute of it. She is always grateful to have the opportunity to share her dance with others.” “Gaïa has been dancing since the age of six and she loves performing. Whether at pubs, competitions, or festivals, she is always happy to have the privilege of sharing her love of dance with others.” “After discovering a love of dance at age seven, Ottawa native Owen Lavender has had the privilege of performing at festivals, charity events, and pubs throughout the region.”
GROUP 2 - New to DACA in 2025 is a band called The Riverthieves. We received important feedback asking for much more of the “original Irish Music” that you know and love…..we heard you and that’s what you will be getting with The Riverthieves. The core members of Eastern Ontario’s Riverthieves have been playing music together since the early 2000s, first as the house band at the Royal Oak on the Canal and in scores of other bars and pubs from Renfrew to Trenton. Eventually, as the bar gigs were interspersed with festival shows and small halls - venues friendly to original music - the Riverthieves began presenting their own songs. In 2009, the band recorded a very memorable live show of original music at the Almonte Town Hall before a sold-out audience. It was released as their first album, Bandit Queen, the following year.
GROUP 3 - The Fiddlaires- 2023 Canadian Folk Music ‘Young Performers of the year nominees for their debut CD ‘Fiddletainment’ This brother and sister duo - Wilson and Lucie Lazarus are proud to live in the beautiful Upper Ottawa Valley, surrounded in a rich culture of fiddle and dance. They love to share traditional music throughout the country with live performances including their very own YouTube channel with over 600000 views. They will be joined in DACA by Mike Whitehead on Bass, Lyle Green on rhythm guitar and Ian Peplinski on lead guitar.
